Hounds with bad training and experiences

Mike, Rebel, I think environment as in training and experiences have more to do with getting a hound to his full potential than we often recognize. A hound with great genetics may never be what he could have been if he is raised and trained in the wrong hands. This is a big responsibility...

    Good Friday Morning

Mike, I have wanted us to be busier here , and it has been almost dead. Rebel posting again will bring more people to the forum. And I agree with you that he is a wealth of information. I have come to recognize that Rebel is somewhat ahead of his time. People will sometimes or often not...

    The price of hounds

Just a reminder we had be careful of what we say with our mouths. If you/we state a price, and the money is given to you/us , we have just sold our best dog. Someone playing that kind of game these days could end up shot dead.

Hounds with bad training and experiences

The best people that get a hound from us are those who become friends. One of my wife’s better friends now took a beagle a couple of years ago. She is always sending us pictures of Buddy. And she will call for advice if something comes up. I really do think the friends we have made are...

    The price of hounds

I am noticing sales of well bred beagles bringing $500 to $1000. Is this a trend? How much would you spend for a hound you really wanted? Would you spend a $1000? Even more?

Hounds with bad training and experiences

Of course, no doubt we have some differences in our desires for a hound. We all want some of the same things too. We want a dog that can run all day with no limping (good conformation), a dog with no extra mouth, a dog that is bold and friendly, (not shy), And we all want a hound that is...

    Bloodline???

I think it would be educational to learn from you what you would do as a beginning. Another thing is I like my beagles to be bold and friendly, and eager to please me. Most hunters don’t care about that as much as I do. So as stated before, every person has their list of good and bad traits.

    Bloodline???

Are you starting completely over? Or do you have some of what you produced in previous years? Why do I ask? I guess part of the reason is how would you start from ground zero? You would probably not study pedigrees? You might as a start? But I suspect you would be selecting the next...

Hounds with bad training and experiences

Sometimes a young hound has more promise than the owner thinks. If a person can see that, perhaps they could end up with a good hound. Usually, however, the best hounds that can be bought are probably from someone who must sell due to life events, etc. No one wants to see someone forced to...

Kennel and new born pup's temperature?

Sounds like something.we should all own. The room where I have central heat and used to keep the pups we have had here has been renovated into a walk in closet. That means next litter will be in an outside kennel. The item you are talking about might be valuable if a person wanted to keep...

12 acres in an ideal place to hunt, plenty of deer, turkey, rabbits, NOT near meighbors, on paved road in Cherokee County Alabama on ShineBone road.

We’ve been looking for a summer place and place to go for a few days from time to time to run hounds, and also in better environments. We do not currently plan to relocate from present home as family is all near here, but Texas, which has many cottontails, is all about deer hunting. My...

Hounds with bad training and experiences

Do you think some faults we see in hounds are acquired because of bad training and experiences we houndsmen gave to them? Do we blame genetics when it is really our own doing?
